There may not be a more enjoyable way to help charity.

That was the general impression one would gather on a comfortably sunny Thursday at Woodburn’s OGA Golf Course where Love INC North Marion County held its 6th Annual Golf Tournament.

Around mid-morning one golfer said it best: “It couldn’t be better – I’m missing work and I’m out on a golf course helping a good cause.”

Scores of golfers set out in an 8 a.m. shotgun start at the event, which was fortified by more than a dozen local sponsors. It is one of the larger fund raisers for the local Love INC, the charitable entity that spans large swaths of the needy through its tremendous networking.

That scope includes family support with necessities such as strollers, car seats and diapers, utility assistance, personal needs such as clothing and hygiene supplies and suicide prevention.  A grant from the PGE  Foundation helped continue their Suicide Prevention efforts.  The nonprofit’s assistance broadens considerably through its referrals; when people come to Love INC for help and it’s not the kind it can directly furnish, Love INC personnel know where to send them to get what they need.

Christina Barboza of the Love INC NMC Board of Directors said the nonprofit’s largest fundraiser of the year is its fall dinner and auction.
